Brian’s Journey with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

As a child, Brian’s teachers often noted his struggles with attention and following instructions. Despite his mother's initial belief that nothing was wrong, a pivotal moment came when she observed him in his first grade classroom. While Brian’s classmates took out their textbooks as instructed, Brian did not. After ruling out hearing issues several times, Brian was diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Initially, Brian’s mother chose not to medicate him. However, his academic struggles and feelings of inadequacy—believing he was the "dumbest kid in the class"—prompted his mother to reconsider. Medication became a game changer, allowing him to reach his academic potential and manage his behavior.

Today, as a psychologist, Brian helps children and adults facing similar challenges, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other mental health challenges by offering comprehensive psychological evaluations. Brian’s journey with ADHD was not easy, but it shaped his path to success. With a strong support system, medication, and organizational strategies, individuals with ADHD can achieve their potential. Brian is privileged to be part of that journey for others.

The Path to Starting Collin Testing and Psychological Services

Collin Testing is a husband-and-wife-run business serving the greater Western North Carolina area, including Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard, and surrounding regions. Brian and his spouse Katie met in Brian’s hometown of Charlotte, NC, and moved together through various cities and states, while he trained to become a clinical psychologist. They eventually settled in Asheville, a place they’d always wanted to call home. Since moving here, Katie has transitioned from her role as a Physician Assistant to focus on Collin Testing and Psychological Services. Katie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies, and looks forward to helping serve the community by increasing access to much-needed mental health services.
